  1. A liana is a woody, perennial climbing plant 
  2. with very long stems, which grows around 
  3. trees up to the canopy, where there is more 
  4. sunlight. Lianas are common in tropical 
  5. rainforests, where individual stems may grow 
  6. up to 78m (255ft) long.
